Just in Time for Foster Youth helps mentor, guide and support emancipated foster youth to successfully transition into independence. We will learn more about this organization and the services they provide.

WANT TO HELP? Help a JIT Youth get a fresh start by participating in our “My First Home” drive. We are collecting the items below to help transitioning foster youth with basic needs to set up and maintain a clean, fresh home.
1. Towels and washcloths (new)
2. New Full or Queen Size Bedding: sheets, blankets, Bed-in-a-Bag sets (neutral colors are best)
3. Cleaning Supplies (i.e. broom & dustpan, all purpose cleaner, sponges, cleaning gloves, dish detergent, scrub brush, Swiffer wet/dry mop, buckets, toilet bowl scrubber)

- Looking for 3-4 girlfriends to “share” a family.
- Also looking for help to administrate the Adopt A Family program
- As “Secret Shoppers” for sponsors who can’t shop (great for someone with a big heart and small budget!)
- Volunteers needed to shop, select, and wrap gifts
- With set-up and gift distribution on December 18 between 8:00-10:00 or 4:00-6:30 (bi-lingual is a plus!)
- Adopt A Family at the Boys and Girls Club of Vista and help make the holidays magical!
- Grandmas Care Winter Project – Grandmas, we are collecting hats, scarfs, gloves for Christmas through December 15th. Please email Rosita for details.
- Got Your Back San Diego – Next month Girlfriends Care will be collecting breakfast foods for children in need in San Diego. Help us collected 1,000 items by starting your own food drive, encouraging friends to bring an item to your next holiday party, or collected food at your place of business.Click here for a flyer to use for your own drive.
- Bread of Life – Love to cook? Girlfriends care prepares and serves dinner to the guests of Bread of Life Rescue mission the first Saturday of the month during their winter shelter season. To participate contact Maureen Richards maureen@girlfrienscare.org This is a family friendly service project. A limited number of kids and teens welcome.

- GFC Gift Bags for women in need– Supplies are needed to fill GFC Gift Bags. A beautiful gift bag brings a smile to those with very little. Girlfriends Care decorates and puts together gifts bags for women and girls in need, We need new journals, beauty items, jewelry and other “girly” items to fill the bags. Contact Diana Hanes at Diana@girlfriendscare.org if you would like to donate or bring them to a monthly meeting.
- Prayer Pillowcases – Girlfriends are needed to help cut, iron and sew our Prayer Pillowcases in preparation for the distribution of more than 700 pillowcases each year to comfort the homeless and those living in transitional housing in both North County and San Diego. Girlfriends are also needed to lead groups of kids decorating and praying for the receiver. Contact Linda Crawford at pillowcases@girlfriendscare.org for more information and/or to make a project donation.
- Homeless Street Teens and Foster Youth Aging out of the system – Donate non-perishable snacks or socks to be handed out to the homeless teens through YMCA Youth & Family Services. Bring to the next Girlfriends Care meeting or drop off at any of our drop off locations or contact Charity at CBrant@ymca.org.
- Milestone House, Support At-Risk Teen Foster Girls! Milestone House is in need of volunteers who are willing to share their teaching talents in areas needed – such as music, art or cooking. Contact Beverly Boone at Beverly@milestonehouse.org.
- Help Women and Children Rebuilding Their Lives After Domestic Violence or Sexual Assault – The moms and children living in transitional housing at the Women’s Resource Center always need basic household supplies and grocery store gift cards. Drop your donation during regular business hours at their office at 1963 Apple Street, Oceanside 92054 – or bring to a GFC meeting.

- Linda’s Gift Open House Party – Come, Donate, Shop, and enjoy Treats at Linda’s Gift Open House. Tuesday, November 13. All donations will benefit Girlfriends Care’s partners and Breast Cancer Angels. Click here for more details.
- Br. Benno’s Volunteer Blitz – It’s time to sign up for one of our most popular events of the year in support of Brother Bennos. Volunteers are needed to help the homeless, working poor, and those in transition who are served by Brother Benno’s! For more details, click here.
- Solutions for Change’s Breaking and Entering – Girlfriends Care will be bringing Christmas cheer to their newest residents in the Intake Action Center on Friday November 30. Help is needed with providing small gift items and decorations as well as hands-on decorating help. This is a 36 bed facility, plus infants, so many hands and hearts are needed and welcome! - Carlsbad Cares & Shares – Our largest Girlfriends Care donation collection event is coming up on October 24th. Help us spread the word of Girlfriends Care while collecting donations that are needed by many of our partners. Sign up to help here.
- Carlsbad Village Faire – Girlfriends Care will continue to collect donations at the Carlsbad Village Faire on Sunday, November 4th. Sign up to help here.
- Boys and Girls Club Vista – Contact Ellen Clark ellen@bgcvista.com.
- The Boys and Girls Club needs volunteers to help with the Texas Hold ‘Em Poker Tournament Fundraiser on Saturday, October 27th, 2018. Volunteers needed for the following activities:
- Set-up 1:00-4:00
- Hospitality 4:00-8:00
- Event 5:00-10:00
- The club is in need of administration assistance on weekdays.
- Want to work directly with the kids? Programs volunteers are always needed for art, reading, computer lab, fitness, or play.
- The Boys and Girls Club needs volunteers to help with the Texas Hold ‘Em Poker Tournament Fundraiser on Saturday, October 27th, 2018. Volunteers needed for the following activities:
- 5th Walk for a Cause – Join Linda Nickey on October 27 for a Walk for a Cause in San Diego. For a suggested donation of $25, enjoy time with girlfriends, the fresh air, and champagne/snacks afterward. All proceeds go to the San Diego Food Bank. For more info, click here.
- Brother Benno’s –
- Brother Benno’s will be serving their annual Thanksgiving dinner to guests. We ask you to support them in this wonderful event that feeds hundreds that may not otherwise get to celebrate the holiday. Thanksgiving Holiday Dinner needs include:
- Frozen turkeys,
- Large cans of turkey/chicken gravy,
- Large cans of cranberries,
- Good quality plastic knives, forks, and spoons,
- Sturdy medium-size plates for serving the pie (We use trays for the main meal.)
- All items can be dropped off at our warehouse at the back of the main Center, Monday through Friday between 6:30 and 12:30, and on Saturday between 8:30 and 12.30. (They need the turkeys no later than November 14.)
- Save the dates of December 5th and 8th for Girlfriends Care Annual Holiday Blitz serving those in need at Brother Benno’s. Watch your email for updates!
