Outreach Projects

What’s Your Passion Area? Is your heart drawn to helping children, teens, single moms, the elderly, abused, homeless, or hungry?  You may already know where you want to serve, but if not you can find out by 1.) experimenting by volunteering, or 2.) attending a monthly outreach meeting to learn what we offer!

Volunteer Projects!  Want to get involved?  Girlfriends Care is dedicated to filling the needs of women, children and others in crisis in San Diego County by connecting volunteers to meaningful outreach through a smorgasbord of projects.  You decide what interests you and what role you want to play. Discover your passion area…where your heart is…then step forward.  We want to help people balance their lives as they find ways to give unto others.  We’re adding new projects all the time! • Dinner with Friends at Bread of Life: Help feed the homeless and poor by purchasing, preparing, and/or serving food on the 1st Saturday evening of each winter month December through March at Bread of Life.
  • GFC Breakfast Club at Brother Benno’s: Serve already prepared food on the 3rd Saturday morning of each month to the homeless and poor at Brother Benno’s.
  • KidzCare: Teaching children grades K-8 the value of helping those less fortunate through projects such as preparing sack lunches for the homeless, bagging rice and beans for food boxes, creating placemats for feeding the homeless, and making scarves and food packs for teens on the street.  Adult volunteers needed to coordinate and lead projects. Teens are welcome to assist.
  • Teens Care: Provides youth ages 13-17 unique opportunities to serve our community more independently than KidzCare. Projects include sorting food for the Post Office Food Drive, decorating an apartment for Christmas, sorting clothes at Br. Bennos Thrift Shop and more.
  • Prayer Pillowcases: Cut, iron, sew flannel pillowcases to give to the homeless and those in transitional housing. Various children’s group decorate the patch labels and pray specifically for the person who will receive it.
  • GFC Gift Bags: Creating gift bags for women in transitional housing filled with toiletries, journals, personal and “girlie” items, and love.  The majority of bags are distributed at Christmas and Mother’s Day, or to new residents entering transitional housing.
  • Fun & Fundraising:  Volunteers needed to create, plan, assist and/or manage fundraising events of all sizes to benefit GFC and those we serve.

MAKE YOUR SOMETHING COUNT!

“GFC has given me the opportunity to realize we all have a passion within us to touch the lives of others.  For me it has been working with the inspiring people at Brother Benno’s who selflessly give of themselves to better their community. I have been very lucky in life and by being able to serve those who have not, I have enriched my life in so many ways.  Thank you Girlfriends for being such great examples of compassion and caring.”

-Kathy Caputo, GFC Board Member

“Girlfriends Care has provided me with the opportunity to balance family and my volunteer time. Through Girlfriends Care I have been able to serve our local community alongside my son. And I have been blessed with the opportunity to work with hundreds of enthusiastic kids by leading Kidzcare projects!”
